Leaving my family and all of my friends at Indonesia maybe is the hardest thing in my life. When the plane started to take off, you feel that you don’t want to go and not wanting to change anything. But here I am now. An island girl here in a big modern country.

If you ask me what big changes have happened in my life, well, so many of things have changed my life. My personality since I came here has changed. There’s a lot of stories that I can tell, but I will share the story of when I was voulenteering and at my grandma and grandpa’s house, that we call grandma and grandpa moo house.

It was a really nice weekend that day. No homework, and just having fun with my family. At 9 am my auntie picked me and my younger sister up to go to Fort Wayne, to do volunteer hours there. We just drove to Fort Wayne for 20 minutes, and we arrived at Pet Food Pantry, and had our volunteer hours there. And it was a lot of fun. We just scooped pet food and filled it into a zipper bag and gave it to the people who needed the pet food for free. And after that for our reward, my auntie brought us to Fazolis and we ate there. After we were full we went back home and went to our grandpa and grandama moo house. I asked my brother why they call them grandpa and grandma moo house, and he said that it’s because they live in a farm and have farm animals, like a cow, pigs and even a horse. I had a friend who came with me too. Her name is Yarraslava and she is from Kyrgistan. She is an exchange student too and she was learning English with my mom.

It’s about 1 hour drive to grandpa and grandma moo house, and all along the trip we were just singing and playing games together. When we arrived I was suprised when I saw a really big corn field. Dad said that it’s grandpa’s field. Grandpa and grandma welcomed us, and after that my younger sister just asked me to go around with her. She showed me grandma and grandpa moo house, and it was so pretty and big. All the decorations were so pretty. Then we went out and saw grandpa and grandma’s car. Meanwhile I was just kinda suprised when I found out that American people camp with a nice big car, with bedrooms in it and a little bathroom plus a small kitchen. Cause all I know when I usually go camping with the scouts, we just have no bedrooms and no bathrooms lol. After that my sister showed my grandpa and grandma’s pool, and then the barn and all of the farm technology that grandpa uses for his farm. After taking me around, my sister asked me to go with her drive to drive a polarise. It is like a little car that farmers use to drive around the corn field or the bean field, and it actually is the same like a car, like how we use it and drive it, it is actually the same. My little sister who is only 10 years old drove a car, it made me scared a little bit. But my mom went with us too, cause she said we always have to be guarded. Then we started to drive around grandpa’s corn field. Grandpa has a really wide corn field. But it’s so fun, my little sister could drive so good and mommy said she is a good driver. After a long time of driving around the corn fields, we entered the house and had dinner together. There was a lot of food and while we were eating, grandpa and grandma asked me about my country and asked my friend too about her country. We just told stories and started talking about our countries. They felt so curious about Indonesia and I just answered the questions that they asked. I thought that it so fun to share about my country with them. After that we played outside . We sat near the pool and just watched the stars. My grandma showed me the star consellations. Then she just embraced me, and said that when she missed my host father when he was at work at The Dominican Republic, she always looks at the stars. For her talking to the stars shows that no matter how far we are, we still look at the same sky and they who we miss will always be in our heart. I just hugged my grandma and that made me feel so sad and also I realized that I left all of my family and friends, to meet a new family and new friends here, and all of them are always in my heart and my mind.
