On June 17th, 2022, a group of 33 Asia Kakehashi fighters from Indonesia went to Japan. They went from Indonesia to Japan and arrived at Narita Airport, Japan on June 18th, 2022. They will spend 10 months full of joy in Japan as exchange students. And I am one of the Asia Kakehashi Fighters from my lovely country, Indonesia.

こんにちは!! ラフィです。

Hello ! ! My name is Ravy.

As an exchange student from Indonesia to Japan, I will share my 3-month experience in the Land of Sakura. 夢でもあり、現実でもあり。 Yume demo ari, Genjitsu demo ari, means “a Dream and Reality”. Going to Japan has been my dream since I was in elementary school. but I couldn’t believe that I would get an opportunity to go to Japan as an exchange student, these 10 months in my life will be a great journey, and also a dream come true for me.

I went to my placement on June 25th, 2022, at Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. I started 日本の高校生活 (Nihon no Koukou Seikatsu) or Japanese high school life on June 26th, 2022. The day after I came to Shizuoka prefecture. I was afraid of cultural differences. I have heard that there are so many cultural differences between Japan and Indonesia such as table manners, school manners, public transportation manners, and many others. I have to force myself to adapt to my host community in Japan.

On the first day, I introduced myself in front of my classmates. I also gave a presentation about my lovely country, Indonesia. I brought Indonesian batik pencils and some Indonesian money. and I gave that to my Japanese friends who answered my question about Indonesia. I gave them 5000 Rupiah and then they were surprised because in Japanese yen 5000 is a lot of money, and then I explained the difference in the amount of money to them. Everyone was so happy with my presentation, and also the prizes.

I’m currently a dormitory student but I also got to see my host family during summer vacation. This was the first summer vacation in my life. The dormitory was closed and I went to my host family’s house. My host family is 山好き (Yamazuki) which means, people that love mountains. Because of that I often go to the river to swim, I also hiked a mountain when Indonesia’s Independence Day, the mountain’s name is 浜石岳 (Hamaishidake), and it was hard for me because it was my first hiking experience. but it was a really fun first hiking experience for me.

Speaking of Indonesian Independence Day celebrations, last August 17th, 2022, I also celebrated this special day for Indonesians in Japan, together with my host family. I introduced them to some Indonesian people’s games on Independence Day. I invited them to play gobak sodor, and also invited my host family to eat Indonesian instant noodles because from the bottom of my heart, I miss the atmosphere of Independence Day celebrations in Indonesia. Even though I am far away from my homeland, I feel that the celebration of the Republic of Indonesia’s 77th Independence Day is very meaningful and has further nurtured my nationalism. Once again, Happy 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. that’s my 3 months of joy in Japan, thank you for reading my story! INDONESIA MERDEKA!
